30 Days of Marvel: Day 4

30 Days of Marvel masterlist.

Day #4: Your favorite royal.

Descended from a line of African priestesses, daughter of a princess, and finally Queen of Wakanda, Storm is royalty through and through — and even if she weren’t, her demeanor would be enough to fool anyone into believing she was.

When I was a little girl, I watched the 90s X-Men cartoon religiously, and though I favored Rogue over any other, I always felt like Storm was the kind of person I wanted to grow up to be. (When I didn’t want to be an astronaut or a teacher, of course.) Most of that was probably because she was the only strong female character of color I saw on a regular basis, and though I didn’t really see it that way when I was 10, I realize it now.

She’s also a part of one of my favorite Magneto (my favorite villain) moments:

Day #4: Least favorite character.

Howard the Duck

I’ve tried explaining just why I can’t stand Howard the Duck, and I’ve come up short. Maybe it’s from being traumatized by the movie when I was little, maybe it’s his abrasiveness, maybe it’s the fact that my mind can accept superheroes and Skrulls and Shi’ar, but a part of it just cannot — CANNOT — accept a walking, talking, asshole of a duck. I’ve tried opening my mind, but I can’t stand him.
