Women of Marvel Memorable Moments Master List

Here we go! 97 moments 166 moments as suggested by you!  I was interested to see the variety on the list and some of the minor characters that got a mention.  Equally as surprising were characters that got almost no mention!

This is just a master list.  I may have missed a few so feel free to point it out, or even suggest a few more now that you see what’s up there.

Remember the character must have had agency in the moment.  It can’t simply be something that happened to her or was done to her.

From Sunday there will be NO MORE nominations.  From Monday we’ll have a series of polls, narrowing the field down to the 20 top moments.  Then a series of blog posts on those moments, and finally another poll to choose the top 5 memorable moments for Marvel Women.

48 Responses to Women of Marvel Memorable Moments Master List

  1. D. says:

I was REALLY excited to see so many great choices but that kinda floundered when I caught your glaring omissions… Not even one Dazzler moment? *tsk*

    – Dazzler showing up Havok by demonstrating control, finesse and proving how mega-power doesn’t mean mega-blasting everything in sight.
    – Dazzler reminding her teammates that there is life beyond duties and orchestrates a girls day out.
    – Dazzler making peace with her issues with Rogue and risking her life to save her.
    – Dazzler constantly stepping up to do what is needed at the cost of her dreams.
    – Dazzler owning her disco diva image; good and bad and declaring people deal with it.
    – Dazzler being one of the most self-aware characters in comics… but I suppoooose that ties in with that last. ;)

  2. georgethecat says:

When Faiza Hussan becomes the wielder of Excalibur — I haven’t read *it* but I’ve seen the moment on Tumblr and Scans Daily.
And I can’t think of any Storm moments off the top of my head, but surely someone else can???

    • pseudicide says:

I was sad no one suggested Faiza. I may have to pull out my copy of Captain Britain and MI-5 tonight!

    • Claire says:

When Faiza prays, readying herself to do split-second ultra-healing to save her and Dane from being splattered to death after their plane is destroyed.

      So awesome.

    • Mockingbird landing the Quinjet on Norman Osborn and calling the Avengers to assemble

    I’m sure I have more.

  4. Terry says:

Aunt May in the hospital reveals to Peter that she has known he was Spider-Man for all these years; I thought it was definitive of a character, fleshing her out and showing that a) not only was she not clueless by never piecing it together, but b) how strong she was for letting Peter go out and risk his life daily, when all her instincts would have been to try to keep him from doing so. (I realise this was retconned later on as not really being Aunt May, but still – at the time it was written, this took Aunt May from being a thinly-developed background character and gave her depth and made her a truly wonderful character.)

  5. Chantaal says:

Finally coming up with my picks, though this list is awesome already:

    – Molly Hayes of the Runaways punching out Wolverine, and standing up to Iron Man and Captain America
    – Siryn goes home to Ireland to spend a few weeks working through her alcoholism issues, eventually confronting her uncle (aka Black Tom) about how he raised her before deciding she no longer needs alcohol
    – Siryn levels an entire city block with her scream to protect the people of Mutant Town
    – After being beaten and left for dead then kidnapped and tied up by a former mutant gone insane, Siryn refuses to be scared; she manages to save herself moments before Rictor comes to her rescue
    – Rogue punching Moonstone into a tank after taking a bit of Ares’ power
    – Kate Bishop breaking into Avengers tower to steal Hawkeye’s bow back.
    – Sue Storm single handedly stopping the fighting between superheroes after Bill Foster is killed by a Thor clone
    – Carol Danvers defeats Mystique while depowered.
    – X-23 attempts suicide to save her fellow X-Force team mates when infected with the Legacy virus

  6. Brent Keane says:

If I can make a belated suggestion: the battle between Storm and (brainwashed) Polaris in (UNCANNY) X-MEN #97, which is the first time we really see Ororo cut loose. “This is no GAME, Polaris!” still sends a chill down my spine to this day!

  7. DBC says:

A few more Maria moments and a moment for another memorable woman:

Maria Hill in New Avengers #25: She saves Iron Man, calls him out on his crappy attitude and reveals that she knows she’s being set up for failure by the powers that be and isn’t going to take it anymore.

    1. One of the most horrifying moments – when Jean burns away Emma’s defenses and makes her re-witness her life. “But the fire of the Phoenix burns through lies, you understand? The gaze of the Phoenix is like an x-ray tearing through every self-deception. So burn, Emma!” Jean Grey, New X-men #139

To save her mentor, Jean stored Xavier’s psyche in her own body, in addition to her own psyche. Elsa Bloodstone smashes a car with her guitar and makes the car explode in Nextwave#1.

  15. Dan says:

    No Mayday Parker/Spider-Girl? For Shame!
There are quite a few but this moment particularly stick out.

Offering this moment from Spider-Girl #27, May has temporarily lost her powers and she has been kidnapped by Normie Osborn who wants to put an end to the whole Spider/Goblin War. Normie tells May that the only way to end it is if one of them dies. It’s not til May realizes Normie wants her break free and stab in the him in the ensueing battle but May refuses and tells Normie that she won’t give up on him and they can find another way to stop the war. Normie struggles with the knife and in the end cuts her bonds disappointed in his weakness that he is unable to kill her or himself. 16. Laura says:

I agree with Ronch about Mary Jane beating the crap out of Chameleon with a baseball bat and Mary Jane choosing to stay and comfort Peter in the epilogue of “The Night Gwen Stacy Died.”

I also agree with georgethecat about Faiza becoming the wielder of Excalibur.

  17. Dave says:

I left my moment on tumblr, but I guess it never got recorded, but just the introduction of Carol Danvers as Ms.Marvel in the 1970s. Yes, there was also She-Hulk and Spiderwoman at the time, but neither of them were focused so much on being a superhero. Carol was the first real solo female superhero for Marvel.
