IGN got the exclusive interview with Batman group editor Mike Marts, marking DC’s first official release on the topic of Post-Flashpoint Gotham since the solicitation of Batman #1. He’s confirmed that the Batman & Robin book will be starring Bruce and Damian as well as the creative teams for B&R, Batman, and Detective. The bigger story though, is the leaked covers that started surfacing last night as part of what may be a controlled leak by DC.
The Batgirl cover speaks for itself, and I don’t think that I need to elaborate on my dismay, if not actual shock, at this move. All signs pointed to it happening. What this means for Stephanie Brown, Cassandra Cain, Wendy “Proxy” Harris, and Charlie “Misfit” Gage-Radcliffe (who also has red hair, blue eyes, and was favoured by DC to follow Cassandra Cain as Batgirl before Stephanie Brown was settled on) remains to be seen and will probably become more clear with DC’s official press release regarding Dick Grayson and the status of Batman Inc. With the fresh revelation of the Batgirl cover, it’s more than likely that Dick is on the cover and not Jason Todd as was originally speculated based on the red and black colour scheme, however the remote possibility of Tim Drake- whose Red Robin colours are red, gold, and black- is also there. The Catwoman cover suggests that Gotham City Sirens will not be part of the relaunch, but little else. Whatever happens, it’s going to be an unforgettable day.
I have so many feelings about all this so far, among them: yay Damian is staying, please let that Batgirl be Charlie, not too excited about Detective’s creative team, and not-sure-if-want Dick as Nightwing again. Really hoping Cassandra and Steph remain, and that Batman Inc. gets its full due and doesn’t get chopped short or affected in strange ways.
yes, this is quite underwhelming. what happened to the radical redesigns i heard about?
