Cyclops #4

• The indigenous species are none too happy with them
• Not that they’re very happy with each other, either — what bargains will need to be struck to get either or both of them out alive?
- Bob’s Burgers #1: I love this show too much not to pick this up.
- Bodies #2: I was veeeery intrigued by the first issue, and I’m curious to see how everything starts to come together.
- Saga #22: I finally caught up on the last four issues and I DON’T LIKE WHERE THIS IS GOING WHYYYYYYYY
Wayward #1: This looks pretty neat, and anything that describes itself as Buffy the Vampire Slayer crossed with Hellboy gets at least a look from me.- All-New Ultimates #7: I haven’t been pleased with the book so far, but I’ll give it a few more issues before dropping it.
- Avengers #34: I feel like I need to go back and re-read the last ten or so issues of this book, because my need to read it isn’t all there, which is so rare with me when it comes to Hickman. I think re-reading and seeing the pieces fall into place at once instead of month to month will help.
- Cyclops #4: Finally caught up with this and I’m so angry that Rucka is leaving the book, it’s so good. SO GOOD.
- Guardians of the Galaxy #18: Okay, did I totally forget to read issue 17? Because the solicit for this issues sounds way unfamiliar. Maybe I should check on that.
- Letter 44 #9: Spaaaaaaace!
- Saga #22: This book is legitimately upsetting and gorgeous and compelling, and I’m saying things that everyone has been saying since issue one, but it hasn’t stopped being true yet.
- All-New Ultimates #7: I’m so frustrated with this book. I’m not sure why I keep picking it up, other than I’m being ridiculously completist when it comes to Miles Morales and these characters, but I’m not a fan of the art, I’m not really liking where the story is going (or not going, more like), but I really don’t want to see the Ultimate Universe end.
- Cyclops #4: I remember when I was upset that Cyclops was leaving the All-New X-Men line-up to go on space adventures with his dad. Now I never want it to end. This book is fantastic and the art and colors are some of my favorite in an ongoing right now. Twenty-seven days.
- Guardians of the Galaxy #18: I’m an issue or so behind on this, so I guess it’s time for two in a row, this week!
- All-New X-Men #31: I continue to have problems with some of the character choices in this book (I’m still not a fan of Laura and Warren suddenly being paired up), I keep coming back for the little character beats. I loved last month and all the Emma and Jean stuff, I love everything out of Bobby’s mouth, and I can’t wait until the Ultimate Universe plot starts up.
- Kill Shakespeare: Mask of Night #3: We’re getting closer to the end of this particular arc, which makes me both sad that it’s nearly over and excited to see what comes next. Having little contained pockets of KS keeps it feeling fresh.
- Bodies #2: JUST. THIS BOOK. I have a review of the first issue (with some notes on the second) scheduled for Thursday, so I’ll keep this limited to the first sentence.
- Manhattan Projects #23:
This book really lets my inner history nerd run wild. It’s just nestled into a part of my brain that makes me want to write a thesis on it, which is super pathetic, but also glorious. Alternate histories are my jam and this is no exception - Saga #22: Please, everyone be okay (emotionally) is my continuing chant for this book. Though if everyone was okay I probably wouldn’t find it to be as compelling of a read as it always is.
- All New X-Men #31: One of these days, we’re going to have an entire issue dedicated to teen!Bobby’s inner monologue. Which probably sounds a lot like the stuff he says out loud, but with more “hey! wait a minute!” going on.
- Cyclops #4: Oh baby space pirate Cyke. I never knew that I wanted this book until it was in my hands. I want it to stay that way for as long as possible.
- Avengers #34: What even is happening here. I mean, I kind of know what’s happening, but thinking about it too much makes my brain hurt. Fortunately all I have to do is read it.
- Uncanny Avengers #23: I’m going to be spending a lot of time this weekend sitting around in an airport, so now is when I am going to check back in with Uncanny Avengers to see if it’s worth reading on the regular. It might stay on the “binge read” list, but Remender could be working magic with this latest sort-of reboot. Or he could not. I’ll find out!
- Groo vs. Conan #2: The first issue was an absolute delight in pretty m
uch all respects, and while I’m always down for new Groo, even I was blown away by just how well done it was. If only all comics could feel like such a labour of love. - Ghostbusters #19: There is just so much happening in this last arc, so much ground being covered, that the last issue left my head spinning a little. Looking forward to the proper return of Tiamat and hoping there’s a bit more space for the book to breathe and recover some humour this month.
- Revival #23: Why aren’t more people reading this book? Consistently one of my favourites on the stands.
- Saga #22: I fell pathetically behind on this book and it is long past time for some catching up. To be honest, I’m a little scared, this book is so damn draining when it’s great.
- Cyclops #4: I remain optimistic that the book won’t start sucking once Rucka is gone, but… well, let’s just enjoy it while it lasts either way, huh?
- Thunderbolts #30: Mostly I just like saying Acker and Blacker. Acker Blacker Acker Blacker Acker Blacker Acker Blacker Acker Blacker Acker Blacker Acker Blacker Acker Blacker Acker Blacker Acker Bla
- Uncanny Avengers #23: Likely getting off the train with this issue, and what a miserable slog of a journey it has been. Mostly I’m just a little boggled by the massively changed status quo for four characters coming out of the last arc?
- Saga #22: I’m so worried about what’s gonna happen in this. It used to be I was just worried about folks dying in this book, but now there’s sticky potential marital strife and break-up potentials and I find this so much more stressful. So obviously this is the pick of the week.
- All-New Ultimates #7: It’s probably weird that this is in
here every time it’s out even though I just complain, but I love the line-up. I love it. Just… not the rest of it. Anyway, this week they face an Ultimate Vermin who basically looks like Ultimate Green Goblin except without the flames, because every aesthetic choice in this book gotta be wrong, apparently. (I’m still bitter about Jessica Drew’s hair.) - All-New X-Men #31: Are they in the Ultimate Universe yet? I generally find this book more interesting conceptually and characterization-wise than plotwise, but I’m interested in seeing them hit up that weirdness. So probably nothing happens in this issue until the last page.
- Avengers #34: Hickman doing his Hickman-y thing, now with Iron Lad? I don’t find it as mind blowing as New Avengers (holy crap New Avengers) but it’s still a good time.
- Cyclops #4: Desperately enjoying my time with Rucka’s run on this before it is cut short which I guess is a metaphor for the events in the comic itself? It’s a delight. Young Cyclops and his dad having space adventures continues to be everything I never knew I wanted.
- All-New Invaders #9: When it comes to comics, I’m not much of a collector. I buy
only what I actually enjoy reading, usually in the cheapest format available. (I’m a sucker for those phone book-sized Essential volumes.) Which is all to say, there are very few characters I have the COLLECT ‘EM ALL mindset for. Bucky Barnes is one of my exceptions. I just love that guy, and it helps that I’ve actually really dug most of the stories he’s been in. So All-New Invaders is a book I really want to love; it features a great cast and I’ve liked some of Robinson’s other stories. But for some reason, the book’s yet to gel for me. I don’t mind writing that
hearkens back to the Silver Age (and Robinson’s expository style certainly does), but in this case, I find it makes the characters seem like strangers rather than brothers in arms. The appeal of an Invaders book is the relationships between the guys, and to that end, Robinson’s not delivering. I’ll keep holding out for now, but my good faith isn’t going to last forever. Still: TORO! - Avengers #34: But speaking of good faith, man, am I glad I stuck through with Hickman’s Avengers. This book (and New Avengers) have been hitting it on all cylinders, and while I wish the lead-up hadn’t been quite so long, it’s TOTALLY WORTH IT. Iron Lad, man! IRON LAD.
- Cyclops #4: I’ve never been the biggest Cyke fan, but this book is just a delight from start to finish, always.

- Thunderbolts #30: Soule’s take on this roster was probably my favourite, but Acker and Blacker are proving worthy successors. The Punisher’s method of disposing of Deadpool last issue was wonderfully macabre, and the cliff-hanger with Elektra has me really looking forward to the rest of the arc.
