Silk #1

Cindy Moon exploded out of her bunker and into the Marvel Universe when we first learned that she had been bitten by that same radioactive spider in the first arc of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. She then went on to save Peter Parker’s life (more than once!) and traverse the Spider-verse alongside Spider-Woman. Now, as SILK, Cindy is on her own in New York City, searching for her past, defining her own future, and webbing up wrong-doers along the way! Robbie Thompson (writer from TV’s Supernatural) fills this new ongoing series with his unique blend of antics and feels. Featuring stunning covers by Eisner Award winner Dave Johnson and interiors by future superstar Stacey Lee.

• Love is in Jersey City as Valentine’s Day arrives! Kamala Khan may not be allowed to go to the dance, but Ms. Marvel is! Well sort of – by crashing it attempting to capture Asgard’s most annoying trickster! Yup, it’s a special Valentine’s Day issue featuring Marvel’s favorite charlatan, Loki!
- Ei8ht #1: Just send all the weird sci-fi comics my way, please and thank you.
- Kitchen #4: I’m loving this twist on the traditional mafia-like story. The ladies of Hell’s Kitchen are no joke, and I can’t waaaait to see how they’re going to deal with the return of their husbands. Get comfy in that back seat, fellas.
- Lazarus #15: I’ve finally caught up on this and I am
looooving it. I think the story flagged at tiny bit in the middle when the narratives split, but now that they’ve joined into one cohesive story arc, I’m all in again. - Black Widow #15: I have my doubts about some of the reasons this storyline has kicked off, but seeing Natasha kick all kinds of ass is always fun.
- Miles Morales: The Ultimate Spider-Man #10: I’m not sure we got any answers and I wasn’t all too excited about all the backstory in the last issue, but things are finally moving forward? Maybe?
- Ms Marvel #12: All Kamala, all the time.
- Silk #1: I’m interested to see where this spider title will go, as I’m not too impressed by Spider-Woman (sadly).
- Storm #8: Ororo continues to kick ass as always.
- Batgirl #39: I must be the main demographic for this title, because it’s the kind of thing that definitely makes me want to get back into reading DC on a regular basis. With the announcement of a new Black Canary comic, this book is reeling me back into the DCverse in all the right ways.
- Bitch Planet #3: A bit behind on this one, but rave reviews for #2 mean that I’m not going to quite give up on this title yet, even if issue one didn’t completely wow me.
- Miles Morales: The Ultimate Spider-Man #10: No matter what week this comes out, it’s always the first thing on my pull list that I read. This book continues to amaze, and I’m looking forward to getting back into the Miles and Katie story as well as the twin spider thieves now that the Ultimate Peter Parker mystery has been solved.
- Ms. Marvel #12: Another one I’m behind on, which has nothing to do with the title and everything to do with my reading habits. It helps, knowing that there’s no way Marvel is going to do anything drastic with Kamala, even in the wake of Secret Wars. She’s awesome, we all love her, they wouldn’t touch her.
- Rocket Raccoon #8: Delightful, every single month.
- Silk #1: I didn’t care for Silk much when she was in Amazing Spider-Man recently, but I’m definitely willing to give this a shot.
- Lumberjanes #11: This comic is my happy place. In the middle of winter it helps to read about adventures at a summer camp. I feel warmer already!
- Fables #149: Penultimate issues are always a little weird and Fables is typically a little weird, so I’m intrigued to see what happens when these two weird fronts hit each other. It could be a hot mess, it could be awesome. I just know I’ll be reading.
- Black Widow #15: Totally random, but I want this cover framed and mounted on my wall. But that might scare my guests away, so I don’t know. The backstory for this plot is a little dubious, but Nat being a badass is my favorite Natasha, so I’m there for it always.
- Legendary Star-Lord #9: Is anyone else reading this? It’s time for “Kitty does time in space that doesn’t involve a giant bullet” and I’m curious to see how it goes. But you can pretty much go “Space!” and I’ll read it.
- Ms. Marvel #12: Such a delight! Did you see how I bookended my list with fun reads that pretty much everyone should read no matter what their age/interest level is? I’m not even going to pretend that wasn’t on purpose.
- Loki: Agent of Asgard #11: Last month’s issue was a hell of a thing. Cards, table, shit, fan, feels, all of my. So what happens to Loki now that his secrets are out and Asgard is not having with them? What happens to my emotions.
- Miles Morales: The Ultimate Spider-Man #10: There’s several balls in the air in this and only three issues before The End, which seems not enough given the decompression usually present. What’s going to haaaaappen. (Really, I just want Marquez to be drawing the All-New Ultimates again before whatever happens, happens.)
- Ms Marvel #12: Also featuring Loki! Which is kind of nice, as it means both fun Loki and emotional Loki are present in the same week.
- Silk #1: Better costume, great art, and potentially interesting character beats. I haven’t been really sold on Silk, but I’m giving it a shot because I just have no idea if I’m going to like it or not and so, let’s find out.
- Batman and Robin #39: This is one of the last Tomasi-penned scripts we’re getting,
now that regular artist Gleason’s been named the new writer for the relaunch of this series. I’m sad to see Tomasi go, as he’s imbued these characters with a genuine pathos I find otherwise lacking in DC titles, but I have high hopes Gleason will be able to maintain the quality of the book. - Loki: Agent of Asgard #11: I’m woman enough to admit that
the last issue made me shed a tear or two. Thor’s anguish and anger is so totally understandable, and I am curious to see how Ewing handles Loki’s journey from here, free from his web of lies and denial. - Ms. Marvel #12: This month’s story presumably happens before Agent of Asgard, given the guest-star, but I’m so excited to see Kamala interact with more of the Marvel universe.
- She-Hulk #12: FINAL ISSUE. I am so devastated. This has easily been my favourite She-Hulk run since Byrne, and I hope, hope, hope Soule gets another crack at the character at some point down the line.
- Silk #1: I’m literally checking this book out for the art and nothing else. The character has thus far vacillated between The Most Awesome Gal to Ever Awesome and Complete Human Disaster, which is not an archetype I particularly care for. If the writing elevates Silk from her borderline Mary Suedom, I might be on board, but otherwise I’ll just go back to admiring unlettered previews pages.
